Replacement EHR

Looking to replace your current Electronic Health Record but don’t know where to start? The task may be easier than you think. And, the cost may be lower than you think. Knowing what didn’t go right the first time plays a pivotal role in not repeating the same mistakes. Replacement EHRs are making up about 20% of the market place so many practices are refining what didn’t work the first time and making successful transitions to replacement EHRs. Here’s how.

  • Make a list of what you do and do not like about your current system. Prioritize what has worked best and worst in your current system.

  • Have an honest conversation about training. Did you invest the time and money for the system to be successful? What would you change about it when you install a new system?

  • What workflows could be improved by installing a new system?

  • Make a template of what the perfect system would look like. Ask the vendors you are demoing to create that as closely as possible. You know what you want this time around. You can ask if the program can manage your workflow not just see the vendors workflow.

  • Ask the vendor to provide you with demo database your staff can work with.

  • Review your contracts. If you will be replacing your EHR before your contract with the current company is up see what fees and services you can cut out when you are not using the product. Often times, clearinghouse fees and maintenance and service fees aren’t charged if you aren’t actively using the software.

These are just a few of the things you should ask yourself when considering a replacement EHR. For more information please contact us.
